This week, i learned that Shamu are carnivores. Shamu are cute and humongous. It is about the same size as a truck. Shamu eats fish, dolphins, seals, sea dog and some time whales!! Shamu has bended back fin and has a big white fake eyes. In Sea world, they raise Shamu and teach them trick. They only ate fish and act very differently than a wild Shamu. They will splash water on you and jumps out of the water like dolphins. I learned that Shamu are whales instead of dolphins. They are commonly found in Canada and cold-water regions. Scientists are trying to figure out why Shamu never attack human, since humans have the same shape as seal in the ocean. Shamu may looks friendly, but in the wild, they are a very cruel hunters. They play with their food and kill extra food for fun. Shamu are also known as killer whale. It is the only whale that is known to prey on so many varieties of prey.

Yesterday in Pleasure reading class, also known as Novel reading, we read a story called the Gifts of Magi. This story is about a poor couple that wanted to buy gifts for each other on Christmas. Both of them used their most valuable things to trade for accessories that goes along with others’ treasure. Della sell her beautiful hair for a chain that can go along with her husband golden watch. Jim, Della’s husband, sell his watch for an expensive set of combs that his wife can use them to comb her hair. At the end, both of them were surprise that they use their most valuable thing to trade for useless thing. The author said that those couple are wise in giving each other gifts. I learn that having a heart to give someone presents is more enjoyable than receiving gifts.(I don’t really agree with this)

During this past seven months, I wrote many posts in my blog. In total, Iwrote 45 blogs and most of them are about “What I learn this week” and learning log. I learn to put picture inside my blog and make links in words. Some of the blogs I had write are Fire extinguisher, Chinese New Year Break and Casino Night. I also put some pictures I draw in illustrator into my blog, such as feudal town and Aztec design. I also learn how to put comments into others blogs. I often write blogs that relate to what I have done or seen in the past few weeks. Although writing blogs are annoying and take times, I type faster and faster after typing about 3000 words in those 45 blogs.

Last week, most of the 8th grader went to Club med Phuket for graduation trip. The weather is extremely hot and the average degree in Phuket is about 33 degree Celsius. During the trip, I finally understand what is sun burn and how important sun block is. The weather is burning hot so everyday we went to the beach to cool us down. We went down to the beach and play in the cool water but we forget the most important thing, sun block. We forgot to put some sun block before we went to play in the pool and as a result, everyone got sunburn. At first, your skin will just get red and you won’t feel anything, but soon you will feel your skin starts to burn and it hurts a lot. It hurts so much that even if you raise your hand up, you will fell the pain. From that experience, I learn that sun block is really important and getting your hand oily isn’t a bad thing to do.
Sun Block: USEFUL!!!

I learn that democracy is not really democracy. It sounds weird and don’t make sense, but actually it make sense. During World War II, all the Japaneses were sent to Relocation camp in America. Although they are the citizen of America, they were still send to the camp because they are Asian. Japanese were treated badly and people stole their property. I learn that in US, a democracy country, don’t gives its people democracy. In a certain situation, democracy usually don’t work on everyone like the Japanese during World War II. Probably I should change my title into “Democracy doesn’t work on everyone”

Yesterday, we had a field trip to Green World. I saw a lots of animals and plants. I learn that Turtle can live between 100-200 years old. It was amazing and cool. Turtles have hard shell and they are heavy. They can weight 500 kg!!! I also saw a big fish called elephant fish(Directly translated from Chinese). The fish can weight for 200 kg which is five times my weight!! The elephant fish kept staring at me which let me become mad. They said if you put your finger into the water, the elephant fish can bite off your finger. So stay away from the fish! I also saw porcupines were fighting each other. They were cute and their spines were sharp. I had lots of fun at Green World.

This week, I learn that it is possible to filter toilet water into clean water with no bacteria. Last week, we had Science Fair and there are lots of experiment that people do. Albert, Edward and Patricia do an experiment on filtering dirty water into clean water. It was interesting and fun to learn. They made their own filtering machine and be able to clean most of the bacteria from the water. They evaporate the water and let it condense in different layer. This enable them to separate the dirty substance with water. They said it took them a few hours to filter it and it is very dirty to touch the toilet water. I think I can do this experiment in the future
