We learned about Barbara Frietchie and the “Too soon to be a woman.” Barbara Frietchie stand up to the Confederate Amry during the civil war. She raised the Union flag in front of them while others took their flag down. In the story too soon a woman, Mary, a 18 years old girls who follow the poor family with no food and money, ate a big mushroom to test whether it’s poisonous. She risk her life for the starving kids and at the end she didn’t die. She is responsible and selfless. she act too soon like a adult because she was only 18 a teenager. We learn that we need to spell out number out up to ninety-nine. For example, we can’t write “He has 2 dogs”. We need to write “He has two dogs.”
This week, we learn about prepositional Phase and Harriet Tubman. We also done our time reading this friday. Prepositional phase is made up of prepositon and an object. For example, i run around the room, “around the room”is the prepositional phrase. Around is preposition and room is the object. I learn that Harriet Tubman help many fugitives escape to the north by the underground rail road. Harriet Tubman was a strong, determined, selfless woman. She is often called Moses by the fugitives so the slave hunters won’t know she is actually a female. This week time reading we read about the function of brain. Brain is really amazing. People often determine a person’s death by seeing if the brain is dead. Brain control every part of our body and each section of the brain does different job.
This week we learn about singular and pluarl. This was quiet easy for every one in the class. Basically, we just need to put a “s” at the end of the word to make it plural. If a word is end with sh, ch, u need to add es to the back of the word. There are some exception, like moose is both singular and plural. We read about how Harriet Tubman help slave to escape to Cananda through underround rail road. Harriet Tubman was a brave, cares for others and determined woman. She is a great leader. In the story, the author use indirect characterization to describe Harriet Tubman.
This week, we learned about some common errors in our vignette. i learn that we need to start a new paragraph whenether a new person speaks in a diaglogue. I learn that we need to add the assignment name in the right hand corner with our names and dates. We learn new vacabulary like incentive, indirect characterization, dispel, fugitives and many other words from the new story we need to read for homework, Conductor on the Underground Railroad. We had a vocabulary quiz on Thursday. We need to review all the grammar we had learned so far for next Thursday grammar test.
This week, we learned about vignettes, prepositon, conjunction and interjectin. We learned what are them and how to use them. Vignettes is an incompele story that describe what happen in a scene. We wrote one vignettes about what happen in our home and one base on the magazine picture that we picked. It’s fun to write it.
The grammar helps me to further understand the key term and ways to use it. I think it will help me on my essays and storys.
This week, i learn about verb and adverb. Verb expressed an action or state of being. I learn that there are action verb and linking verb. Some examples are “walk” is a action verb because it describe what a thing or person do and “is” is a linking verb because it link the subject and predicate together. I learn that adverb can describe a adjectives and verb. Also i learn that no is always a adverb. Adverbs are usually end with ly but there are exceptional. For examples like when, where , why, and too. I also learn vocabulary on the work sheet Ms. Brown gave to us. The vocabulary are key term we used in a writting and story. On this week time reading, we read about Sherlock Holmes. I always though Holmes is a real dectactive but he was a fictional character.
This week i learn about how can foreshadow used in a story. The Landlady used lots of foreshadowing to let us know what might happen to Billy.Foreshadowing is a really good way to suspense a story. I learn from the story The Landlady to trust your instant. If you don’t trust your instant, you will end out like Billy, who got poison and stuffed by the landlady. Also Ms. Brown told us not to drink any drinks from a stranger especially like in the US. They might put drugs inside and poison you. I also learn about adjective. Adjective modifies a noun to tell how many, what kind,and which kind. For example, in the sentence “There is a red apple.” the red is an adjective and it modifies the noun apple.
On Tuesday, we get our test back. I got 5 mistake and after Ms. Brown explaining the answers, i understood my errors. We had many home work on holt reader and hand out. Also we need to define words on the Vocab List. We also learn about pronouns. There are 3 type of pronouns; objective, subjective and possesive pronouns. There are the first perosn, second person and third person pronouns. Examples of third person pronoun are he, she, they, them, their, her ,his and so on.
On Thursday, we disscusse about our book reports. Many people got F so all of us needed to redo the book report again. We disscusse about the rubric and what we needed to improve. We going to have a Vocabulary test tommorrow.
On Friday, we had our time reading first and then jurnal. But because Ms. brown print the wrong page, we don’t need to do time reading. Then we had a vocabulary test on the vocab list. It was not very hard. We also reread the Landlady in class and make prediction in the story. We had the reading check and holt reader pages for homework
On Tuesday, we read each other’s book report about the Broken Chain, while everyone is doing that , Ms. Brown will call someone to read and correct their Personal Narrative essay with her. I learn that there were special format to write a book report. First you need to write about setting. Then the characters, events, and conclution. Finally, talk about is the author objective or subjective and talk aout hoe you feel about the story. We wrote p.26 in our txt book after correcting the book report. We had lots of homework because we don’t have class on Wednesday.
On Thursday, we went though our homework. We disscuse our P.28 and we had to redo the 1st and 2nd question. Then disscused about our p1 in language hand book. I learn to identify the nouns and proper noun in a sentense. Then we disscused about P. 18 in holt reader book. We make sure that we understand the difference between external conflict and external conflicts. We going to have a test on Friday.
On Friday, first thing to do when we arrive in class is to take our test. It was a long test. In the test there are question about the Wise Old Woman, Broken Chain and the writting process. Also we had question about external and internal conflicts. We also need to underline the noun in a sentense. After the test we wrote our journal. We then do our regular Friday time test. I learn that modern zoo is better than the old zoo. Modern zoo made natural enviroment and deep trench for animals unlike the old zoo where you kept animals in cage. I also learn that zoo helped save indanger specises and regain the noraml population of the animal. Our homework is to define words and make sentences. Also we need to retype our bookreport.
On Tursday, we went over our himework on study guide. We dissussed the author of the story, the complication and the resolution. I learned that there was no actual author to the story because this story had been pass on for centuries and no one remember the original author. After we had discussed our homework, Ms.Brown gave us a work sheet to make a book report on “The Wise Old Woman”. Ms. Brown explained to us how to do the book reports and our home work was to finish the book report.
